Career Step is an AHDI-approved school. In my opinion, there are better schools but Career Step is adequate. I know many good transcriptionists who graduated from Career Step. I know many who felt it did not adequately prepare them to enter the work force. It really depends on the teaching style that best accommodates your learning style. Medical transcription is a legitimate work-at-home job. It can be difficult to get the first job, as most employers don't train and require 2 years of experience, but it isn't impossible. It will be easier if you go to the right school. Whatever school you choose, make sure you ask about their placement program and their placement success rate - they should be able to provide you with a percentage of graduates who are successfully placed. On average, medical transcriptionists make $30,000 a year; don't expect to make that the first year, but it is achievable once you have more experience. |
